Send money with confidence
Our Fakenham post office offers Western Union international money transfers. Money can be sent for cash pickup at any Western Union location worldwide, or transferred directly to the recipient's bank account. Most transfers are available for collection within minutes of the transaction being completed.
How to send money
Visit the branch with valid photo ID
Bring one of the following as original ID: a UK, EU or EEA passport; a UK, EU or EEA driving licence; or an EU/EEA national identity card. You must be processing the transaction on your own behalf.
Provide your transfer details
Tell staff the recipient's name, the destination country, the amount you wish to send and how you would like the money to be received: either cash pickup at a Western Union location, or direct to a bank account. If you have used Western Union before, your details will already be on file.
Pay by cash or debit card
Pay the transfer amount plus the transfer fee at the counter. The fee can be included in the total or paid separately. A currency exchange rate may apply for international transfers.
Share your reference number
You will receive a 10-digit Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) on your receipt. Pass this to your recipient. They will need it to collect the money.
Important requirements
- Accepted ID: UK, EU or EEA passport; UK, EU or EEA driving licence; EU/EEA national identity card
- For transactions of £800 or more, you must upload a copy of your ID to the Western Union system. This is a one-time requirement
- You must process the transaction on your own behalf, not on behalf of another person
How recipients collect their money
Once the transfer is processed, the recipient can collect their money at any Western Union agent location worldwide (subject to the funds being available at the specified location).
- The sender provides their MTCN to the recipient
- The recipient visits any Western Union location worldwide with their MTCN and valid photo ID
- Staff verify the ID and MTCN and hand over the funds
Money can also be sent directly to a recipient's bank account. Ask staff for details at the time of your transaction.
