More than just a shop
Built from a belief that local communities deserve great services, and the friendly faces to go with them.
How it started
Norfolk Stores began with a single shop in the village of Great Massingham in September 2018. Founders Mark and Kerry had a straightforward ambition: to take Mark's years of experience in food retail and use it to build something that genuinely mattered: a shop at the centre of its community, delivering great service every day.
That first shop started with just six team members. From there, it grew through investment, hard work and a real belief in improving what was on offer for local people. An old outbuilding was transformed into The Cartshed Tearoom. A mobile Post Office van took to the roads of Norfolk. And a business that began in one village started to become something much bigger.
What we do matters, and how we do it matters even more.
Our journey
We have grown steadily, always guided by the same values we started with. Although the business has changed, the family feel never has.
2018
How it all began
Mark and Kerry purchased their first shop in Great Massingham on 12th September 2018. Starting with just six team members, the vision was simple: a shop that could sit at the centre of its community and provide great service every single day.
2021
National recognition
Hard work and a genuine belief in doing things properly paid off. The team was proud to be awarded Independent Store of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards 2021, and later won Best Shop at the Prestige Awards.
2024
Expanding our reach
The journey continued with the opening of a second convenience shop and Post Office in Brancaster, while the mobile Post Office van grew to serve 19 outreach locations across North, West and Central Norfolk.
2025
New services, same values
Banking Hubs opened in Holt and Wymondham, alongside a new Post Office in Fakenham. With a team now over 30 strong, and further sites planned, the business continues to grow, always guided by the same family feel it started with.
Part of everyday life
We are more than just a shop, Post Office or tearoom. For many customers, we are woven into the rhythm of daily life. Some come to us for essentials. Some need help with important services. Some come for a familiar, friendly face. And some simply come because they trust us.
That trust is not something we take for granted. We play an important role in keeping local services accessible, supporting residents, visitors and local businesses across Norfolk. Every member of the team is part of that.
Today we serve 19 outreach locations with our mobile Post Office van, operate dedicated Banking Hubs in Holt and Wymondham, and offer banking services at all our locations, with new sites and services planned as we grow.
